282 East 3rd Avenue
Owners: Eric, Angie and Luna (the dog) Tabor
Collaborating with Steve Hurtt of urbanorder architecture and interior designer Michelle Mixter, CKBD, the couple custom-built a home in 2016 that serves as a gathering spot to celebrate life’s events big and small. Lush landscaping, complete with a vegetable garden, fruit trees and berry vines, serves as a backdrop to summer parties in the saltwater pool, jacuzzi with a television, and a three-season room complete with a wet-bar, mermaid-themed bathroom and, for those colder months, a fireplace and heated floors.
Inside the home, the couple’s third in Italian Village since 2003, the first floor features an open floorplan with a three-tiered kitchen counter/table, mudroom, walk-in pantry and a living room with built-in benches for extra storage and seating. The mudroom provides access to an attached garage and storage area.
The master bedroom and bathroom, complete with walk-in closets and shower, are on the second floor along with a guest bedroom and bathroom, laundry room and Eric’s home office with a balcony. An additional guest bedroom and bathroom, along with a work-out area and additional storage, are in the basement.
The couple incorporated their love of color throughout the home by using more than 20 colors of indoor paint (look up at the various ceilings to see several of them), installing a hand-blown glass chandelier and selecting a variety of specialty tiles. The outside features blue metal siding alongside specialty brick with iron-spotting, which depending on the sunlight can look dark blue or purple, and a standing-seam metal roof. The square footage of the house, excluding basement, three-season room and garage, is approximately 2,500 sq. ft.
