Special Guest Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla!

The Short North Civic Association, in cooperation with the Harrison West Society, Italian Village Society, Dennison Place Residents Association and University Area Commission, has for years lobbied City officials for safer streets in the Short North, and in particular, for 25 mph speed limits on W. 3rd, W. 5th, King and Neil Avenues, as well as Summit and N. 4th Streets.

Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla chairs City Council’s Public Service Committee and is the legislative point person for the City’s Vision Zero initiative. She will be addressing a meeting of the Short North Civic Association May 1st, 6pm at Thompson Community Center.

This is a Q and A regarding vehicle speeds and their effects with Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla. Slower speeds unlock a number of benefits, the most obvious of which is crash safety, but which also include inviting increased use of streets by alternative transportation means (including last-mile options), more pleasant conditions for pedestrians, and increased enjoyment of our homes, porches and yards, due to reduced noise.

If you care about slower traffic speeds in the Short North, please show your support for our efforts by attending the meeting May 1, to help our City representatives understand how high traffic speeds not only pose a safety risk, but detract from the quality of life in the neighborhood and make it more difficult for alternative transit to use our streets.
