How they came to live here:
Scott and Phil purchased the home in March 2010. Their house was originally built in October 2009 by Dan Frye of D.D. Frye and Associates, a local well-known builder in the Short North who passed away in 2016.
After the new construction was completed and the house sat on the market, the builder decided to make additional changes. The master bathroom was re-renovated with a new design. A wall was removed and a frameless shower was installed allowing for a more spacious area. Granite counter tops and custom cabinetry with dual sinks were also added.
In 2015, Anthony Cousins, owner of Elite Design and Renovation, redesigned an unused workspace in the kitchen. A plan was formulated to raise the granite desk to counter height and add a commercial ice maker and two beverage/wine coolers.
Anthony also replaced the original ceramic backsplash with a beautiful polished Carrera Marble to complement the black granite countertops.
The circular granite attached “island” was designed by the builder. The original design had wood framing on a slim pedestal. Realizing that the pedestal may not hold the weight of the large slab of granite, the builder decided to use a large “oak barrel” to accommodate the weight and custom-built cabinetry around to match the existing cabinets giving it a solid, finished look.
The attached two-car garage has ample storage space. Above the garage you will find a walk-in attic space off the 2nd floor master bedroom closet.
The artwork in the stairwell was commissioned and designed by Michael Owens to demonstrate their love of Columbus and future goal to retire to Palm Springs.
Being movie fanatics, they made the lower level family room area a theater room. It boasts a 126″ screen with HD projector and Dolby Digital sound system.
On the 2nd floor you will find two master suites, with a relaxing jacuzzi tub in the 2nd master as well as a full walk-in closet off the main master and a full attic space entrance.
The house has two laundry areas. Upstairs there is a full hook-up laundry closet that they converted into to a large linen closet. The basement has a full-size laundry room that was enhanced with new cabinetry and laundry system.
The lower level also features a third bedroom / office, walk-in closet and full bathroom with additional closets.
LED lights are used throughout the house as well as outside. Light switches, lighted dimmers and plugs were recently upgraded to a Decora design for a more modern look.
Jason Koebel, owner of Garden Guru, replaced the original backyard grass with pebble rock and stepping stones. In later years, he replaced the front grass with beautiful low-maintenance gardens.
Front and back porches were originally constructed of tongue-in-grove planking. Both have been reconstructed using composite/resin. Copper caps were also added on the front porch stair rails to maintain an authentic Victorian look.
